Dunalley Primary School is a small Tasmanian primary school situated overlooking the beautiful Blackman Bay in the heart of the Dunalley township located 57 kilometres from Hobart. Following the bushfires of 2013 when the school was destroyed, a new school was rebuilt on the site opening in 2016. The new school is a welcoming, vibrant place of learning.
The school was established in 1885 and has a long tradition of developing young people of character with a firm focus on the wellbeing of our students. As a community, we aspire to be people of integrity who act with humility, kindness, courage and respect. Our highly skilled staff are committed to the holistic development of each student within a nurturing environment where students are challenged to be the best they can be.
The school has 131 students currently enrolled, with students generally coming from the Dunalley township and travelling from the smaller surrounding settlements of Primrose Sands, Murdunna and Eaglehawk Neck to the south east, Copping, Kellevie, Bream Creek, Marion Bay to the north
Learning at Dunalley Primary is about building good citizens. Our learning philosophy is based on the principle that we value and celebrate the individuality of each student. Learning programs are structured to guide the students in the development of their values, knowledge, understanding and skills, and to prepare them for experiences beyond the classroom. At Dunalley we aim to build students who act with integrity, communicate effectively, are compassionate, creative, life-long learners, and global citizens. The core values of the school, developed with students, staff and families, are Learning, Respect and Safety. Our motto ‘Striving for Excellence’ underpins our goal that every student can learn and achieve his or her potential. Our motto aligns with the Department of Education’s core values of Connection, Courage, Growth, Respect and Responsibility.
At Dunalley we follow the Australian Curriculum (AC) and Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) which is embedded in the Learning Areas, Cross Curriculum Priorities and General Capabilities as described by the Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority. The teaching and learning programs of the School are developed in the context of a set of principles which are drawn directly from and set firmly in the Guiding documents of our school.
